The Tommyknocker
From the deepest and darkest depths of mines around the world, where the least amount of light will ever reach, miners share similar stories of tiny creatures tapping in the dark.
The United States has the Tommyknockers, their tales carried over by the Cornish miners as the knocking was once again found at the bottom of the mines in the new world. Tommyknockers are neither good nor evil, happy to warn miners of impending collapses and lead them to new seams of ore;
if you’re respectful, and leave offerings of food for them, that is.
An angry Tommyknocker leads to a dangerous mine. Disrespect them, or the tools and trappings of the mine itself – mimicked voices lure people down to their doom, either to be lost or crushed in a collapse, with accidents soon to follow. So, when the Tommyknockers aren’t happy…
