Nishi Dak

India

Nishi Dak, roughly translated from Bengali as ‘The Call of the Dark’, is an evil spirit that can result from someone not being given proper burial rites. Nishi Dak imitates your friends and loved ones to lure you away from safety, all alone, into the dark, as its name suggests. Once there, far from any chance of help, they will attack with murderous intent.

A Nishi Dak can only call out in perfect mimicry two times though, so if you can get the voice to call you a third time you know it’s really someone you know. But twice only, and then silence?

Do not go out into the dark…

What waits for you there is NOT your friend.
