Danse Macabre!

Come one, come all, and join the Dance of Death, the Danse Macabre!

The party is parading down the street, and everyone is welcome!

The sights! The sounds! The music!

Don’t mind that the performers are skeletons, as anyone can join the revel, and who doesn’t like a bit of dancing to music?

And at the end?

Try not to think about the end, as the music stops, and the living who danced with the dead are taken all the way to their graves where they join the merry troupe in the ground. 

Cometh for all, does death, so what does it matter to come for one more? 

All smiles across the skeletons of the Danse, may as well enjoy the time you have left because that time will surely end. We’re all on a finitely mortal clock.

No wealth, no power, no position matters. The Danse Macabre laughs in the faces of austere self appointed “betters” and the march goes ever onward! 

The imagery of The Dance of Death came from mass deaths of medieval Europe between the wars, famines, and plagues of the times. As the idea of this imagery caught on it got used to mock the powerful at the time, a reminder that even smug and safely holed up in their castles death will come for us all. Not especially linked with Halloween originally, the cavorting skeletons have very happily settled around the Spooky Season holidays as time went on.
