Cerberus – Hell Hound

Greece

Cerberus-Hell Hound, Greek mythology

The famous Greek guardian of the underworld, Cerberus was a watch dog with a difference: they would let everyone in but nobody out. Their job was to ensure the dead stayed that way.

Like a lot of the monsters in Greek mythology, Cerberus was more accurately a God or Demigod, being the child of Typhoeus and Echidna. While commonly depicted as having three heads, some describe it as having as many as 50 or 100, though that may also refer to the various lethally venomous serpent heads the monstrous hound has at various points of its body.

Only three times was Cerberus successfully passed, by some of the most famous figures of Greek mythology in extraordinary circumstance. Once you’ve passed into the underworld, in the underworld you WILL be staying, under the watch of the many eyes of Cerberus.
